Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly made the first exploratory move to reunite with current S.S. Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri. The surprising contact suggests a potential return for Sarri to the Stadio Maradona, where he previously enjoyed a successful spell.
Sarri rose to prominence at Empoli before his unforgettable three-year tenure at Napoli between 2015 and 2018. During this period, the Partenopei came remarkably close to dethroning Juventus in Serie A, particularly in his final season, despite not winning any silverware.
Following his departure from Napoli, the Tuscan manager signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2018. A year later, he made a controversial return to Italy with Juventus, a move that earned him the label of 'traitor' from the Neapolitan fanbase who had once adored him.
Maurizio Sarri is currently midway through his second season at S.S. Lazio, having signed a three-year contract with the capital club last summer. The 67-year-old has openly described this campaign as his most challenging, citing issues such as a summer transfer ban, January turmoil, an injury crisis, refereeing controversies, and ongoing fan protests against club president Claudio Lotito.
Despite the difficulties, Sarri had consistently vowed to finish the current season with S.S. Lazio. However, the reported contact from Aurelio De Laurentiis now casts a shadow of uncertainty over his long-term future in Rome, fueling speculation about a dramatic potential reunion with Napoli.
